London is one of the best places for female entrepreneurs

London has been ranked as one of the best cities in the world for female business owners.

The Women Entrepreneur Cities Index ranks the capital as the third best place on the planet for women-led enterprises.

Cities were given a rating based on the access they offer to capital, technology, talent, culture and markets.

Based on these criteria, London is edged only by New York and the Bay Area of California.

With a particularly excellent technology score, the capital is the best positioned of all European cities [Stockholm, in Sweden, is the second best performer].

Elizabeth Fore, the entrepreneur-in-residence at Dell, which compiled the Index, said: “Each of the cities on this list can learn from one another and encourage political change to attract and support women entrepreneurs.

“The resulting change will be felt at not just a city level, but around the world as we develop an ecosystem where all entrepreneurs can thrive regardless of gender.”

The number of female entrepreneurs is increasing worldwide, but campaigners have said that more needs to be done to ensure that women have equal opportunities to attract funding as men – having previously struggled to achieve parity in this area.
